Water Quality
Rainbow is served by excellent groundwater from wellfields near the McKenzie River, in quantities sufficient to meet our normal needs over the winter as well as our increased needs during the hotter summer months. In addition, Rainbow is interconnected with EWEB and SUB to allow the three utilities to share water with each other during emergencies or significant equipment failures. These utilities rely on water from the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers in addition to well water.
The sidebar to the right discusses chlorine, pH and hardness. Our staff monitors our water for these and a number of parameters that allow us to meet and exceed the public health requirements placed on a municipal water system. Chemical tests are reported to the state and made available to the public in an annual summary of test results.
Regional Water Conservation Partnership
Since the mid-1980s, the Rainbow Water District, Springfield Utility Board, and Eugene Water & Electric Board have co-published water quality brochures educating all water customers in the region about what they can do to protect their water quality through cross connection control.
The three utilities continue to partner by supporting this tool to help customers use water wisely.
